Jacqueline Z. Shulman Jacqueline Z. Shulman is a partner with Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP. She is a member of the firm’s Labor Relations and Employment Law Department. Ms. Shulman’s practice is devoted exclusively to the representation of management in all aspects of labor relations and employment law. She has experience in state and federal labor and employment law, with an emphasis on representation of small- to medium-sized companies and family-owned businesses.
Ms. Shulman received her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, and Master of Science degrees from Temple University, Philadelphia. She was awarded her Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law, Villanova, PA.
Prior to joining Obermayer in 1992, she founded Employee Relations Services, Inc., a legal/management consulting service to help small- to medium-size employers prevent labor and employment problems with their employees.
She is a frequent contributor to numerous publications, and also lectures and conducts training seminars nationally and locally on all areas of employee relations. Ms. Shulman’s civic activities include membership on the Board of Directors of the North Penn Chamber of Commerce, North Penn United Way, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, State of Israel Bonds and Forum of Executive Women.
Ms. Shulman is a member of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and American Bar Associations. She is admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court of New Jersey.
Michael Cohen, EsqMichael S. Cohen concentrates his practice in the areas of employment law training and counseling. Mr. Cohen has trained and counseled employers throughout the country on subjects including harassment prevention; workplace diversity; discipline and discharge; hiring and recruiting practices; performance evaluations; FMLA, ADA and FLSA compliance; leave of absence policies; performance management; workplace privacy; sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace; substance abuse testing; workplace violence; records retention; conducting background checks; teens in the workplace and managing attendance problems. He has conducted trainings for executives, directors, managers, supervisors and employees in many industries, including financial services, healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, retail, real estate development, law firms and human services. Mr. Cohen also has conducted trainings for executives, deans and faculty in several institutions of higher education and secondary education. He has conducted more than 150 trainings in the last year.
Mr. Cohen has conducted investigations into claims of harassment and discrimination and has drafted employee handbooks, employment agreements, noncompete agreements and post-termination agreements. He has represented clients throughout the country in EEO and other administrative proceedings.

Maria PetrilloMaria Petrillo is a Partner in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania office of Jackson Lewis LLP. Ms. Petrillo advises clients in traditional labor relations issues, including representing employers in union organizing campaigns, proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, grievance and contract administration and arbitration. She has successfully counseled clients in the healthcare, retail and gaming industries during union organizing drives and corporate campaigns.
Ms. Petrillo also counsels clients in all aspects of employment law, with particular emphasis on the defense of workplace claims of wrongful discharge and discrimination. In addition, she advises employers on the development and enforcement of personnel policies, protection of trade secrets, and conducting effective internal investigations. She has successfully argued matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court.
Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Petrillo was a partner with a major Philadelphia law firm. Her legal career began with a clerkship with the Hon. Abraham J. Gafni and the Hon. Alfred G. DiBona of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County. Following her clerkship, Ms. Petrillo joined the Office of the City Solicitor of Philadelphia where her practice included the defense of tort, civil rights, employment discrimination, and wrongful discharge claims. Ms. Petrillo represented the City of Philadelphia in numerous hearings under the auspices of the American Arbitration Association. She successfully defended the City in its enforcement of its drug policies, insistence on progressive discipline and adherence to performance standards. She represented every major operating department of the City.
Ms. Petrillo is a 1982 graduate of Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law. Ms. Petrillo served as a member and Associate Research Editor of the Temple Law Quarterly. She received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1976.
Ms. Petrillo focuses her efforts to support education, as an active volunteer at Friends Select School, where she co-chairs the Annual Giving Committee. She provides pro bono services and counsel to Lincoln Day Nursery School in Philadelphia, an institution which has served the community for over one hundred years.
Rick GrimaldiRick Grimaldi is Resident Manager and Partner of the Philadelphia, PA office of Jackson Lewis LLP. His practice spans all aspects of domestic and international labor and employment law. Mr. Grimaldi regularly assists business clients with traditional labor matters such as formulating comprehensive and strategic union avoidance tactics, protecting employers in union election campaigns, negotiating collective bargaining agreements and defending grievance and unfair labor practice claims. In addition, he represents employers in all facets of employment counseling and litigation, including discrimination claims, wrongful discharge, wage and hour investigations and claims, reductions in force, non-compete/proprietary information issues, drafting of employment handbooks and independent contractor agreements. He also provides advice on the rapidly changing laws and regulations concerning privacy and data protection.
Mr. Grimaldi’s recent client representations include decertifying a union on behalf of a major retail corporation; successfully defending against age and disability claims brought against a large corporate client; resolving complicated wage and hour claims brought against a construction industry client; and achieving a favorable contract for a major health care client who had been at impasse with the union representing its staff.
Prior to joining Jackson Lewis LLP, Mr. Grimaldi was with a large Philadelphia law firm, and had previously served as Senior Counsel and Director of North American Employee/Labor Relations at Unisys Corporation, a Fortune 500 technology company located in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. At Unisys, Mr. Grimaldi provided day to day counseling and litigation assistance in a wide array of labor and employment matters. Before joining Unisys, Mr. Grimaldi served as Deputy General Counsel to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge and Chief Counsel to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. Mr. Grimaldi also Chaired the state judicial nominating commissions for Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties. Having served in state government, Mr. Grimaldi has extensive experience in all facets of state administrative agency practice.
Mr. Grimaldi received his B.A., magna cum laude, in 1983 from Temple University, and his J.D. in 1987 from the Villanova University School of Law. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the District of Columbia, and is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He is a lifetime member of Continental Who’s Who of National Business Leaders; a member of the Americans of Italian Heritage Council, Inc.; and a member of the Board of Directors of The Pennsylvania Future Fund.
